Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?
All you need to do is setup a free consultation with me, by calling (480) 292-4803, or by emailing me at mkdehm@cox.net You may also sign up here.

Do you tutor on weekends?
Yes, from 12:00pm-5:00pm on Saturdays only.

How many hours of tutoring are recommended per month?
For most students, 2-3 hours per week is sufficient. Some students, however, do require additional help or the discipline of a more frequent schedule to stay focused or get ahead. In such circumstances, we suggest taking a session for up to one hour every day.

Can I reschedule classes?
I recommend that you choose the hours based on your schedule and adhere to that schedule to maintain a routine. However, if your circumstances compel you to reschedule temporarily or choose a different schedule, I will do so, I require 24 hrs notice if a class is to be cancelled out of courtesy to other students who may want that time slot.

How many hours do I get? Is there a limit?
There is no limit to the number of hours of tutoring you can get from me. I do recommend a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 5 classes per week to ensure that you have time to absorb the material as well as practice on your own.

Do I need to sign a contract?                                                                                                                                                                                     You do not have to sign a contract.  If you are not satisfied with Tutor For Excellence, you can cancel service at any time. I will refund you for any unused tutoring sessions based on the rate applicable for the number of sessions used.

How do I pay for the service?
I accept cash or check payable to Mary Dehm at each session.  You may also use Paypal.

Where does the student get tutored?                                                                                                                                                               Tutoring lessons are held at a library or in the student's home with at least one parent or guardian at home. A quiet, distraction-free area with table and chairs is required.

Do students require any special equipment?                                                                                                                                                       The need for materials other than paper, pencils and/or pens will be decided at the consultation.

How important is it to continue classes over the summer months?
Scientific research has shown that over their summer break children can forget up to 40% of what they’ve learned if they don’t study at all. I therefore recommend taking at least 2 classes per week during the summer months. Continued systematic learning helps students prepare for the next grade, and reinforces the material covered in the previous grade.
